Our Sustainable Design Ethos: Eco-conscious Craftsmanship in the Algarve
We are guided by the principle that beauty shouldn't come at the expense of the Earth.
From our Algarve studio, we actively weave eco-conscious interior design into every project. Through a dedicated focus on artisan restoration, creative upcycling, and thoughtful sourcing, we guarantee that our bespoke lampshades and interiors are both stunning and sustainable.
Join us in making responsible choices without ever sacrificing elegance here in Portugal!
How We Can Make A Difference
Design for Longevity
The true measure of sustainable design lies in its lasting quality. We champion the philosophy that "buy once, buy well" is always best.
For our interior design clients, this translates to selecting high-quality, durable materials and classic, timeless aesthetics that won't require replacement in a few years. Investing in well-made pieces is the most impactful step toward responsible design.
Conscious Material Choices
Every material choice is a conscious one. For our handcrafted lampshades and Interior Design accents, we prioritise fabrics and materials that are kind to the planet and health-focused.
We favour natural, biodegradable fabrics like organic cotton, linen, hemp, and wool.
We also champion highly renewable resources such as cork, which is locally available here in Portugal. And for high-wear pieces, we may use durable textiles developed from recycled plastics, ensuring performance without compromising our ethical commitment.
Reduce, Reuse, and Upcycle
Waste is simply material awaiting a new purpose in our Atelier!
We are dedicated to keeping items out of landfill by specialising in furniture restoration and artistic upcycling. This always begins with sourcing second-hand and vintage furniture pieces that are ripe for transformation.
This focus extends to our lampshades: we prioritise restoring and re-covering old lampshade frames rather than disposing of them. We also transform unique finds, like treasured vases or bottles, into striking bespoke lamp bases. By giving objects a second life, we make sustainability a beautiful part of your home's story.
Incorporate Biophilic Design
Biophilic Design is key to wellness and a core element of sustainable interior design. We integrate this principle by purposefully maximising natural light and using materials like natural wood and stone to foster a connection with the outdoors.
By strategically incorporating living plants, we enhance the health, productivity, and well-being of your space, making your Algarve home feel harmonious with its beautiful surroundings.
Eco-Friendly Paints and Finishes
We ensure your living space is as healthy as it is beautiful. For our furniture upcycling and restoration work, we strive use low- or zero-VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) paints and finishes.
This guarantees that no harmful chemicals are released into your home's air, protecting your health while delivering a flawless, high-quality finish for every piece we revitalize.
Waste Reduction and Local Sourcing
Minimising waste and supporting local communities are central to our ethos. We maintain a near-zero waste process in our Atelier, ensuring fabric scraps and materials are repurposed for detailing or future projects.
Furthermore, we actively reuse or responsibly recycle all cardboard packaging that comes into our studio, reducing our footprint on logistics.
And by supporting local manufacturers and suppliers in the Algarve, we reduce transport emissions and champion the regional circular economy for sustainable growth in Portugal.
